JSON Validator Online – Check JSON Syntax

JSON Validator

Check JSON syntax and get an error message with an approximate line and column location.

Ready. Your data is processed in this browser.

How the JSON validator works

Paste JSON or select a .json file, then choose Validate JSON. The validator parses the input in your browser and reports whether the syntax is valid. When parsing fails, it displays the browser’s error message and an approximate line and column when the parser provides a character position.

Valid JSON example

{"status":"success","count":2,"items":[{"id":1},{"id":2}]}

Common JSON syntax errors

JSON property names and text values must use double quotes. Remove trailing commas, check that every opening bracket has a matching closing bracket, and use true, false or null in lowercase. JSON does not support comments.

Frequently asked questions

Does this validator send data to a server?

No. JSON.parse runs in your browser and the input is not submitted to our server.

Can it repair invalid JSON automatically?

No. It identifies syntax errors so you can correct the original input.

Is the line and column exact?

The location is approximate when the browser’s parser error includes a character position.

Fix common JSON syntax problems

JSON is strict about its syntax. Property names and string values must use double quotation marks, commas separate items, and the final item in an object or array must not have a trailing comma. The literals true, false and null must be written in lowercase.

Every opening curly brace or square bracket needs a matching closing character. JSON does not support comments, single-quoted strings, undefined or trailing commas. These are frequent causes of errors when JSON is copied from configuration files or programming code.

The validator uses the browser’s JSON parser. When the browser reports a character position, the page estimates the corresponding line and column; this location is a guide rather than a guaranteed editor-style diagnostic. The tool identifies syntax errors but does not automatically repair the source.
